Explanation of single-turn angle sensor (absolute encoder)

The absolute value single-turn angle sensor (encoder) uses magnetic induction technology, employing differential array magnetic sensitive elements and a non-contact method to measure angles. It measures the rotational axis by sensing the parallel magnetic field strength of a permanent magnet installed at one end of the axis. Through MCU processing, it achieves linearity correction, temperature compensation, output signal standardization, digital filtering, zero point setting, and programmable intelligent control with different slope settings. This allows for the output of the sensor's absolute angular position within a range of 0 to 360°, obtaining a unique code. When the rotation exceeds 360 degrees, the code returns to the origin. This type of coding can only be used for measurements within a rotation range of 360 degrees, known as a single-turn absolute value encoder.

The characteristics of the Msensor sensor magnetic sensitive technology single-turn absolute value encoder are as follows:

  1. Within one turn (0 to 360°), there is no repeated coding, and the coding changes continuously according to a certain pattern. Thus, within the range of one full rotation of the encoder, the coding value can reflect the current actual position/angle of the device.

  2. It uses binary Gray code encoding. Gray code and ordinary binary code are both types of numerical sequences, but in ordinary binary code, adjacent numbers may have multiple bits change, while in Gray code, only one bit changes between adjacent numbers.

For example: The decimal numbers 0, 1, 2, 3 are represented in ordinary binary code as: 00, 01, 10, 11; while in Gray code, they are: 00, 01, 11, 10. The benefit of this approach is to avoid strong pulse interference caused by multiple bits changing levels simultaneously, making detection and control more accurate and reliable.

  3. It internally uses magnetic sensitive technology, which is not easily affected by external signal interference.

The conversion from binary Gray code to natural binary code follows the rule of retaining the highest bit of the Gray code as the highest bit of the natural binary code; the second highest bit of the natural binary code is obtained by XORing the highest bit of the natural binary code with the second highest bit of the Gray code; the remaining bits of the natural binary code are calculated similarly to the second highest bit.

Msensor sensor product matrix extends to absolute encoders, incremental encoders, magnetoelectric encoders, magnetic ring encoders, couplings, etc.
